We love Massachusetts-based artist Lisa DeJohn’s simple, charming designs and think your mom will too. In fact, it sounds like we have Lisa’s mom (an artist as well) to thank for inspiring her career. “She got me started early and never allowed me to buy coloring books because she wanted me to use my eyes and my imagination,” Lisa says. Crayons and blank paper pads led to great things for Lisa–her work has been featured in Land of Nod, IKEA and even on a New Mexico water tower! A couple of weeks back Uncommon artist Dennis McNett did something pretty amazing in Philly. He made a boat. Anybody who wanted to paste their images on it was welcome to, so the boat quickly become a semi-seaworthy collage. The vessel made it’s way through the streets of Philly with the crew in tow, beating on drums and generally have a great time.
Many fireworks were set off, a snooty condo complex was stormed, and everybody had a grand old time.
After the party the ship was destroyed in a matter of minutes. It was like it never even happened. I wish we were there to join the party. Good on you Dennis and the folks of Philadelphia!
