CloseTony Hong (b. 1977) began making art while attending Psychology lectures at UCLA. With perfect attendance in the back of a large lecture hall, he was relentless in his doodling. After graduating, he continued to doodle. However, now there was nothing to mark his dismissal to go to the next class. He didn’t know when to leave; so, he kept drawing. This inability to effectively know when to stop, led to calloused hands and a first-name basis relationship with the janitorial staff of the college library he used as a studio.
But that was where he honed his skills, found his voice, and with no clear idea of what would happen, began to make his work public. With his first public display of work in late 2008, he had his first solo two years later. He continues to do gallery work while also doing his best to participate in charity auctions. Recently, his work has begun to show national and international commercial appeal. He hopes to continue to do gallery work, and commercial projects in order to do his part to support the various non-profit organizations he has come to associate himself with.
Born and raised in Long Beach, California, Tony Hong still lives in Los Angeles County. He does his best to work hard during the day to ensure he sleeps well at night. He believes it makes dreams more real.
